US Cellular Suffers Massive Data Breach
US Cellular said in data breach notification letters that the company’s billing system was hacked in December 2021 exposing sensitive customer data. “On December 13, 2021, US Cellular detected a data security incident in ‘which unauthorized individuals illegally accessed our billing system and gained access to wireless customer accounts that contain personal information,” the carrier explained.
US Cellular customers should be on the lookout for targeted phishing scams utilizing information stolen from the CRM as well in increased spam emails, text messages, and robocalls. In addition, US Cellular customers should change account PINs if they are reused anywhere else since they are now compromised.
